Building the Design Function at a logistics startup

As the first full-time design hire, I was responsible for setting up the design function at Intugine Technologies. This meant wearing multiple hats-from defining product experiences and building systems to supporting brand and marketing efforts.

Bringing Design to the Heart of the Product

Bringing Design to the Heart of the Product

The Challenge

When I joined, there was no formal design process or team. Product was driven largely by engineering and business needs. There was a lack of consistency across interfaces, and no design documentation or tooling in place.

What I Did

  • Collaborated with PMs and engineers to define design’s role across the product lifecycle-from discovery to delivery.

  • Set up design reviews, feedback loops, and product practices like user stories and PRDs to bring clarity and alignment across teams.

  • Introduced tools like Adobe XD, Figma & Zeplin, created templates, and helped standardize workflows.

  • Worked closely with leadership to prioritize design hiring and create clarity around design roles and responsibilities.

Impact

  • Design became a strategic partner in product discussions, not just a service layer.

Building the Internal Design System

Building the Internal Design System

The Challenge

With multiple designers joining and engineering bandwidth tight, we needed a systematic way to build consistent UIs across products.

What I Did

  • Audited existing UIs and identified inconsistencies.

  • Defined a set of reusable components, design tokens, and interaction patterns.

  • Created a Figma library, documented usage guidelines and worked with engineers to translate into a component library in code.

Impact

  • Cut down UI review cycles by half.

  • Enabled faster onboarding of new designers.

  • Created a common design language between product, design, and dev.

Designing Transport Management System

Designing Transport Management System

The Challenge

Logistics operations are complex, with enterprise users juggling vast datasets (shipments, locations, partners, exceptions). Existing dashboards were overloaded and inconsistent. Our users needed clarity, flexibility, and efficiency.

What I Did

  • Worked closely with product and ops to map user roles, goals, and pain points across the shipment lifecycle.

  • Designed interfaces for:

    • Shipment tracking dashboards with customizable filters and real-time statuses.

    • Exception management tools to flag and resolve delays proactively.

    • Control tower dashboards for high-level operational visibility.

Impact

  • Reduced time to resolve shipment issues by 30% (reported by internal ops).

  • Simplified decision-making for enterprise users, helping reduce dependency on our support teams.

Designing and Developing the Company Website

Designing and Developing the Company Website

The Challenge

The website was outdated and didn’t reflect our product maturity or value proposition. We needed a modern, clear, and SEO-friendly website to improve lead generation and brand trust.

What I Did

  • Collaborated with marketing and founders to define goals and structure.

  • Designed and developed the site in Webflow, balancing performance and creativity.

  • Focused on clear messaging, fast load times, and modular sections that could be reused or updated easily.

Impact

  • Bounce rate dropped by 40%.

  • Marketing team was able to launch new landing pages independently using Webflow CMS.

  • 5x increase in lead generation.

Afterword

Afterword

My time at Intugine taught me how to design in ambiguity, build systems from scratch, and balance craft with execution. I grew not just as a designer, but as a team builder and problem solver who could bring clarity to chaos.
